Acupuncture can be helpful for hair loss

Acupuncture can be helpful for hair loss by stimulating blood flow to the scalp and supporting normal follicle function. There is specific acupuncture treatment for hair loss and balding caused by alopecia. In cases of alopecia, acupuncturists must also treat the underlying imbalances which can vary for each person.

Modern medicine believes that alopecia areata is caused by a defective immune system where the immune system attacks the hair follicles. Acupuncturists have a different idea of what causes both hair loss and alopecia, and these causes can vary from person to person. Therefore acupuncture treatment for hair loss, male pattern baldness, and alopecia can vary for each person.

Acupuncture treatment for hair loss or balding is almost always accompanied by the use of Chinese herbal medicine.

Acupuncture hair loss treatment is given several times a week. Herbal medicines are usually taken several times daily. Also acupuncturists can use a seven star acupuncture needle and tap the bald patch or scalp where the hair is thinning.

Acupuncture Hair Loss Research

Dr Emil Hey of the Department of Dermatology, Medical University, Bulgaria, studying 521 patients, discovered that most subjects who suffered alopecia had a different combination of tender auricular acupoints (acupoints on the ear).

The results indicated that auricular acupuncture offers a unique method of determining underlying causes in the various forms of alopecia. The treatment may be used in conjunction with other methods for treating baldness and that treatment should be directed to the tender acupuncture points rather than on a standard list of points.

However, the main benefit of this acupuncture research is that it offers hope to alopecia sufferers by providing the information required for future research into auricular acupuncture treatment on patients suffering with alopecia.
Hair Loss Treatment With Acupuncture

The basic idea in treating hair loss, alopecia, premature balding, and even male pattern hair loss with acupuncture is to restore normal flow of qi (energy) and nourishing blood to the scalp and hair follicles. This is done by placing hair thin needles in the scalp to stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles. Other acupuncture points on the body are also used to treat the underlying conditions that may be responsible for this deficient flow. Acupuncture points related to blood production as well as acupuncture points related to qi stagnation are two examples.
